Automatic Cleaning with the ACL: Preparing Yarn Tails for Reliable Production
Reliable yarn handling starts with careful preparation. Before a bobbin can be loaded onto the creel and its yarn joined, unwanted knots, loose fibres and excess yarn tails must be removed. The yarn end must then be located and positioned for the next steps.
The Automatic Creel Loader (ACL) developed by Vandewiele Automation automates this preparation through its cleaning module, reducing manual intervention and providing consistent yarn tail preparation.
What Does the Cleaning Module Do?
The ACL’s cleaning process goes beyond removing loose material. It prepares each bobbin for subsequent automated handling through three main operations:
- Removing unwanted material: External knots, loose fibres and unwanted yarn tails are removed to prevent them from interfering with subsequent operations.
- Identifying the yarn tail: The yarn end required for the next stages is located and isolated.
- Positioning the yarn end: The prepared tail is placed in a controlled position for subsequent handling and splicing.
Together, these operations turn a task that normally requires manual attention into a repeatable preparation sequence.
An Essential Step in the ACL Workflow
Cleaning takes place after bobbin unloading and vision inspection, before carousel buffering, creel loading and automatic splicing.
Its role is to ensure that subsequent stations receive bobbins with properly prepared yarn tails. This helps reduce handling difficulties and supports reliable operation throughout the automated sequence.
Practical Benefits for Textile Manufacturers
More Consistent Preparation
Manual yarn tail preparation can vary between operators and bobbins. Automating the process provides a consistent method for removing unwanted material, locating the yarn end and positioning it for further handling.
Improved Reliability at Subsequent Stages
Loose fibres, unwanted tails and poorly positioned yarn ends can interfere with automated handling and splicing. Addressing these issues during cleaning helps reduce misfeeds and unsuccessful joining operations.
Less Repetitive Manual Work
By automating cleaning and yarn tail preparation, the ACL reduces the need for operators to manually inspect and prepare each bobbin, allowing them to focus on production supervision and other tasks.
Preparing the Yarn, Supporting Production Continuity
Cleaning is a key part of the ACL’s integrated approach to creel preparation. By preparing the yarn tail before buffering, loading and splicing, it helps subsequent operations run more reliably.
From pallet to creel, each step contributes to the same objective: reducing manual handling and supporting continuous yarn flow.
